Philosophy and the Theatre.. have a long History...'Bums on Seats' is what it's all about....
but Bums on Stages are just as Ancient.. 
In the USA 'Theatre' is spelled differently 'Theater'  this and other subtle language differences with 'British-English'  actually affects the whole
Script of various Plays.. A Streetcar named Desire-one of America's most popular Plays is not immediately recognizable by European English Speakers as being a 'Trolley-Bus' or 'Tram-Car'
as opposed to an actual Automobile [Car] on  a  Street...and 'Desire' is that a Girls name like the French 'Desiree?' or is it 'a Wish?'  Language depends on Historic context and Local usage.
However both of these Productions have something in common-Marlon Brando- who appeared in the Movie 'Desiree' [as Napoleon Bonaparte]
and ' A Streetcar'.. Brando is very influential -the Coens are reported as 'Mimicking His Stanislavski
'Method Acting' whilst making 'Lebowski' .
Brando pops up throughout 'Lebowski' , [Rug Stealing Scene from 'The Godfather' etc]'Kurtz' in 'Apocalypse Now' [based on Conrad's 19th Century 'Heart of Darkness' with its 'Man in Pink PYJAMAS' line...  ]
but Brando was a Stage [Theatre] Actor as well...His first collaboration with Elia Kazan was in a Broadway Play
called 'Truckline Cafe'- seems He really did make it to the Semis..


'Fabulous Invalid' [see link below] is a Term that American Actors use for the Theatre itself - it is also the name of another actual Stage Production. Sometimes confusion can occur...


 Some Plays/Tales have been  'Edited' to provide a 'Happy Ending' which the original Author never intended- as to why? there are many reasons.. but originally these Tales were used to instruct Children..
Hans Christian Andersen wrote many very 'Dark' 'Fairy Tales which were used by People such as Walt Disney in 'Cartoon' form.
An example is The Little Mermaid - who, in the original Tale had no Soul unless 'She'  did a 'Deal' with a 'Witch' but after the 'Deal' [which involved cutting out Her Tongue] She was left in agonizing pain and to rub salt in the wound had to watch the object of Her desire marry someone else...
for an interesting 'Homoerotic' interpretation that Andersen the Author was a repressed Homosexual.....others have 'Pirates' killing all Ariel's Sisters etc- Mermaids etc are directly from much very Ancient Mythology -[Homer's 'Odyssey' etc]but are known to be dangerous 'Entities'..

Another well known Tale -'Sleeping Beauty' -in the Original...a 'Passing Prince' actually Rapes the incumbent Maid and leaves Her Pregnant with Twins...
Hansel and Gretel...Child abandonment possible 'Witch'  Cannibalism and so on..
'Snow White' after surviving 3 assassination attempts has the 'Witch' forcibly wearing 'Red Hot' Shoes heated on Coals-which make Her dance until She dies..

Studies done on the Subject of  famous 'Fantasy' Authors- usually reveal an actual 'Life-Event' which is being Re-Produced in Their Fiction.
Barrie was a very Complex Character , 'Peter Pan' made His first appearance in an Adult Novel called
'Little White Bird' before re-appearing in 'The Boy who Wouldn't Grow Up' two years later.

This is the 'Child Within' being 'brought back'- but into an unfamiliar environment-this is the vulnerable quality -so often portrayed by Actor Jeff Bridges in previous Movies-

To linger on 'Starman' a while, the Production of this Movie was delayed and the 
consensus amongst Movie Critic World is it was because of 'E.T' by Spielberg was too
